For several years now the number of people buying tickets on cruise ships has been increasing and although overall the hospitality industry did take a significant hit with the worldwide recession that gripped many countries such as the United States and which is still quite strong within certain nations of Europe, it would seem that the healthy recovery enjoyed by various companies offering New York cruises has been tempered somewhat by the recent cruise ship disaster that happened off the cost of Italy which has captivated a local audience for weeks.

Carnival Corp. was the parent company of the cruise line and unfortunately for that company?s bottom line there was a report out recently which showcased that fewer bookings had taken place in the time after the cruise ship disaster took place. The attention on the cruise ship industry at large has been significant and some people are apparently concerned over various safety issues that made the Costa Concordia disaster much worse than it should have been and this could be a blow to the cruise industry which had up until the disaster been enjoying a significantly higher client rate.

Numbers suggest that over eleven million Americans took to the oceans and went on a cruise in 2011 and that this represented almost fifteen billion dollars in revenue overall for the industry. While 2012 was supposed to have been what many people considered a year of moderate growth for the cruise industry, not everyone is now convinced that the industry will quite recover in 2012.
