Yale Wins Bucknell Invitational - Yale Bulldogs

Sophomores Firmansyah, Harder and Heymann Lead the Way

LEWISBURG, Pa. ? Yale men's swimming and diving won the Bucknell Invitational Sunday night in what turned out to be a successful early-season outing for the team. The Nov. 16-18 Bucknell Invitational was Yale's second official meet of the season. The Elis secured a victory through their depth and the efforts of sophomores Alwin Firmansyah, Rob Harder and Andrew Heymann. The Bulldogs won with a total of 1,550 points. Delaware and Bucknell rounded out the top three.

The first event of Sunday's finals was the 1650-yard freestyle. The Elis claimed three of the top eight finishes with Harder, freshman William Yang and freshman Brian Hogan finishing in third, fifth and seventh-place. Harder, was one of several sophomore swimmers to have successful outings at the weekend's competition, winning two events.

Sophomore Mike Lazris and freshman Kevin Stang placed first and second in the 200-yard backstroke final. Harder placed eighth, while senior captain Jared Lovett, Hogan and sophomore Andy Wingerson placed 20th, 23rd and 24th.

In the 100-yard freestyle final, the Elis again claimed three of the top eight finishes. Junior Paschall Davis finished third, while freshman Victor Zhang and junior Pat Killian finished seventh and eighth.

Heymann finished third in the 200-yard breaststroke. One of the superb sophomores, Heymann won a total of four events (two individual and two relay) during the three days of racing.

Firmansyah won the 200-yard butterfly Sunday, bringing his win total to six events (three individual and three relay).? Yang placed eighth. Freshman Jake Goldstein, senior Mike Dominski and Lovett finished in 10th, 12th and 16th, respectively.

The Yale men's swimming and diving team aptly wrapped up their weekend with a win in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The team consisting of Heymann, Firmansyah, Davis and Zhang won the concluding event in a time of 3:02.90. The Elis cruised to a comfortable victory that put the finishing touches on what can be considered a promising and hopeful start to the season.

Hoping to build on their promising early-season start, the Bulldogs return to the pool on Saturday, Dec. 10th at Massachusetts in Amherst, Mass.
